Recycling

Wychfield

What can be recycled is exactly the same across all sites – Cambridge City Council provide a full list here, summarised below.

Should be recycled:

  • Mixed paper, including magazines and envelopes
  • Cardboard
  • Plastic bottles, tubs, pots, and trays
  • Glass bottles, jars (lids/caps removed)
  • Metal cans, tins, jar lids
  • Clean foil
  • Empty aerosol cans

Can not currently be recycled:

  • Plastic bags, cling film, plastic wrapping, bubble wrap
  • Envelopes containing bubble wrap
  • Crisp packets
  • Shredded paper
  • Styrofoam
  • Tissues/kitchen roll
  • Clothing/textiles

How recycling happens is a work in progress. While general waste bins are emptied by housekeeping, you’re currently responsible for taking recycling from your room (where it should be collected in recycling bags) to the recycling point for your building (listed below).

Students living at Wychfield and BBC also have a mixed recycling box in the shared kitchen, which, once again, it’s your responsibility to take out and leave in front of your building’s entrance, before 10am Monday to Friday.

Recycling points:

  • Central Site – bins in the garage (under the terrace)
  • BoHo – blue bins outside entrance
  • Coote House – boxes/bins outside building
  • Dean House – boxes/bins outside building
  • New Build – kitchen box
  • BBC – kitchen box

Batteries and plastic bags can be recycled at supermarkets.

If you’ve any problems or questions, just email the green officer (see the committee page).
